The network-project "La
salle du monde" is a long-term project and establishes links between
inhabitants of different towns and villages. This Public Art project
began in 1993 in the French town of Oiron (1. realisation) and continue
2004 in Bern|Swiss (2. realisation)
It raises questions about cultural identity and communication. It links inhabitants
of different places due to the ritual of an annual dinner. In each place of the
art work "La salle du monde"
a random community of 150 persons is
chosen by drawing. This community meets every year at the same day in
their town to have dinner together, which is served
on a personalized table service.
Like a local chronicle, the 150 personalized table services
are exhibited in an institution or public place as a portrait gallery during
364 days a year. The linking between the places and their inhabitants
is an integral element of the project. La salle du monde establishes links between
inhabitants of different towns and villages. Connecting towns and their random
communitys is a part of the project: ex: the participants of "La salle du
monde Oiron" are invited to the dinner at "La salle du monde Bern" and
vice versa. The network is open for wide places.
